俳優、タレントらのイメージビジュアルを数多く手掛けている古田氏。広告やテレビ番組、映画、舞台などに関わるスチール写真では、被写体の本質を見抜いて描くだけでなく、役柄の美の演出まで担える創造的な伴走者として高い評価を受けています。制作・演出上の意図を増幅し、見るものを引き込むセレブリティフォトを創りあげられる手腕には、プロデューサーやディレクターとしての彼のキャリア、映像作家としての資質も生きています。
一方で彼は近年、多重露光を用いた独自の風景写真シリーズを発表し続けています。「離れた場所同士が何かの縁でつながっているという概念を、ビジュアルとして表現する試みとしてスタートした」という同シリーズでは、大きなスケールで陰影豊かに描き留められた森や川、大地などが、地理的な情報のレベルから全く自由に解き放たれ、見る側の心のなかに新しい物語を綴り始めるようなスリリングな劇場感覚を備えています。2024年から25年にかけて国内外のアートフェアで発表されてプリント作品の人気も高く、大きな反響を集めてきました。カメラを通して向き合う対象が人物なのか風景なのかを問わず、何らかの物語性をプラグインできる。それが古田氏特有の写真術なのです。
本展は、古田氏にとって約10年ぶりの個展です。彼のクリエイションと魅力を横断的に「STORYSCAPES」と言い表しながら、初めて全体像を見渡せる場として企画されました。多重露光の風景写真シリーズをメインに、約60点のプリント作品を展示・販売いたします。近年、共に充実したフォトセッションを続けている俳優・玉城裕規の未公開カットを含め、ポートレートや様々なアーカイブも組み入れる構成になります。

Mr. Furuta has created a wide array of image visuals for actors and entertainers. In still photography for advertising, television programs, films, and stage productions, he is highly regarded not only for his ability to perceive and depict the essence of his subjects, but also for serving as a creative partner capable of shaping the aesthetic of the characters themselves. His skill in amplifying the intentions of producers and directors, and in crafting celebrity portraits that draw viewers in, is rooted in his career as a producer and director as well as in his sensibility as a visual artist.
In recent years, he has also continued to present his own series of landscape photographs created through multiple exposure. “The series began as an attempt to visually express the idea that distant places are connected by some invisible thread,” he explains. Forests, rivers, and landmasses—captured on a large scale with rich tonal depth—are liberated entirely from geographical context, giving rise to a thrilling theatricality that seems to weave new narratives within the viewer’s mind. Shown at art fairs in Japan and abroad between 2024 and 2025, the prints have gained significant popularity and acclaim. Whether his subject through the camera is a person or a landscape, Furuta possesses the unique ability to infuse a sense of story into the image. That is the hallmark of his photographic practice.
This exhibition marks Furuta’s first solo show in roughly ten years. Conceived as a place where his creative world can be seen in its entirety, it adopts the term “STORYSCAPES” to express the breadth of his vision and artistic appeal. Centering on his multiple-exposure landscape series, approximately sixty prints will be exhibited and offered for sale. The presentation will also include portraits and various archival works, featuring unpublished cuts from his recent, deeply collaborative photo sessions with actor Yuki Tamaki.
